Ptychio Oikonomikon Epistimon (Degree in Economics)
Undergraduate
Upper secondary degree (6 years of studies). National level examination.
The study program of the School of Economics contains two distinct biannual cycles. The first cycle of studies consists of four (4) semesters. It contains foundation courses in the fields of Economics and Management and is common to all students of the Department. The second cycle of studies consists of the four (4) remaining semesters and is divided into two different divisions (orientations):
1.Business Administration
2. Economy
At the beginning of the fifth semester each student must choose one of the above two divisions. The elective and specialisation courses determine the specialisation.
For graduation, the student must declare and successfully pass the exams in 46 courses. From those, 37 are Compulsory Courses (21 Core and 16 belonging to the selected division), 8 are Elective Courses and 1 is a Foreign Language Course.
Exams can be written/oral or in an assignment form.
The final score obtained by the student is the average of the scores obtained for each of the 46 in total courses that he/she must successfully attend and examined.
Teaching hours are four (4) per week for Compulsory courses and three (3) per week for the Elective courses.
Students have the opportunity to participate in an internship project. Moreover students can choose to study abroad (for a period up to 2 semesters) through ERASMUS student exchange programs.
The undergraduate study program (USP) provided by the School of Economics aims at training economists to study, comprehend and apply the principles of Economic and Management Sciences and to promote research in these fields. At the applied level, USP also aims in training and providing the graduates with the necessary skills related to the sectors of Economics, Management and Education.
Graduates of the School of Economics, further to the basic knowledge of their discipline and profession are able to: 1) apply knowledge in practice, 2) communicate in a second foreign language, 3) search, process, analyse and synthesise data and information, use also the necessary technologies, 4) adapt to novel situations and make decisions, 5) work independently or in groups in international and/or interdisciplinary contexts, 6) generate new research ideas and design and manage projects, 7) respect diversity, multiculturalism and the natural environment, 8) demonstrate social, professional and moral responsibility and sensitivity to gender issues, 9) view themselves as well as others critically, 10) promote free, inductive and deductive thinking.

The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to postgraduate studies.
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education.

8 SEMESTERS, 240 ECTS.
A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1 ECTS=25-30 student work load hours).Compliance with ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one(Ministerial Decision no Φ.5/89656/Β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B). Each course is credited with a number of ECTS(>=2) according to the studentworkload (contact hours, laboratory work, examination etc) and accumulation of credits (ECTS) is accomplished after successful completion of course.
