Processes and Technology of Advanced Materials
Postgraduate
Graduates of Engineering Faculties and University Science Schools are accepted as well as graduates of the respective Departments of Technological Educational Institutes (TEI) in Greece or equivalent recognized Institutes abroad. Graduates of University Schools of relevant disciplines in Greece or equivalent, recognized Institutes in Science or Engineering in relevant disciplines abroad can also be admitted in a percentage on the number of admitted students (up to 20%). Under the same restriction, applications of graduates of other University Schools are in principle accepted for review. Students with a first cycle academic degree from abroad cannot be awarded the Postgraduate Degree of Specialisation, unless it has been recognised by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition Information Center.
In order to obtain the Postgraduate Degree of Specialisation from the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Study Programme (IPSP) "Processes and Technology of Advanced Materials" of the Aristotle University Schools of Chemical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry, students have to successfully complete 3 semesters, that correspond to 90 ECTS. The programme includes 4 core courses during the first semester and during the second 1 core course and 4 elective courses, corresponding to a total of 60 ECTS. The third semester is devoted in the preparation of the Postgraduate Diploma Thesis, which corresponds to 30 ECTS.
The Programme aims at:
Training of an elite group of graduates of Engineering Faculties and University Science Schools as well as graduates of Technological Educational Institutes (TEI) in Greece or equivalent recognized Institutes abroad in key directions of advanced materials technology and their preparation to conduct interdisciplinary research in cutting-edge issues of contemporary materials technology. Graduates of the programme will meet a critical demand for researchers, trainers and managers in the materials field with broad understanding, skills and interests necessary to address a series of problems, which cannot be understood in the context of the training provided by the existing undergraduate programmes in Greek Universities.
Production of scientific workforce and the development of new competencies in the area of advanced materials (polymerics, ceramics, electrotechnical and electronic materials, metals / alloys and composites / reinforced materials) as well as production processes and characterization of advanced materials.
Interconnection and cooperation of Greek universities, research centers and industry in the cognitive area of advanced materials technology.
Professional rights in the public or private sector are determined by the first cycle academic degree of the holder of the Postgraduate Degree of Specialisation (PDS), in accordance with national and EU legislation. In some cases, employment in the public or private sector requires specialized knowledge for which a relevant PDS is a formal or essential prerequisite.
The qualification is a terminal award and allows access to doctoral studies.
A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education.

3 SEMESTERS, 90 ECTS.
A full academic year is equivalent to 60 ECTS units and each semester to 30 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) (1 ECTS=25-30 student work load hours). Compliance with the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) regulations started in 2007, when the Greek Legislation was harmonized with the relevant European one (Ministerial Decision no Φ5/89656/β3, art. 1-3, Hellenic Government Gazette no 1466/2007/B).
