Course Content (Syllabus)
Concrete. Financial, technical and environmental approach. Evolution and perspectives. Concrete mix design suitable for all types of construction. Concrete regulatory framework - National Specifications. Production, transport, placement, compacting, curing stages and quality control. Fresh concrete properties. Workability (concept, measurement methods, importance). Compactability, fluidity, pumpability. Air content. Bulk density. Hardened concrete properties. Compressive strength and factors influencing it. Tensile strength. Elastic properties of concrete (stress-strain curve). Young's modulus. Deformations (elastic, plastic, thermal), long-term (drying shrinkage, creep). Fatigue strength. Strength under permanent load. Impact resistance. Concrete durability. EN 206 standard on durability. Special concretes. Mass concrete. Fiber-reinforced concrete. Self compacting concrete. Shrinkage compensating concrete. Reinforcing steel bars: Production-marking. Categories. Special types of reinforcing steel. Regulatory framework. Stress-strain curve. Steel characteristics. Adhesion. Laboratory tests.
