General Prerequisites
Good level of English, knowledge of information systems principles, background on Web framework and current Web technologies, advanced level in Java programming.
Learning Outcomes
Understanding Web information Systems principles, identify core issues involved in web in-formation management, implementation of Web-based applications and Web accessing over interfaces. Training on designing and developing of Web-centered data-intensive applications.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Basic concepts for Web information systems. Design and implementation of Internet based applications by using modern frameworks and techniques (Java, XML, PHP technologies) . Models and information structures appropriate for data management by using applications and tools (PHP, MySQL) for Web data accessing. Web applications protocols and infrastructures. Java advanced functionalities and applets with emphasis on the database and information systems connectivity. The Social Web environment and data management applications with the use of Web 2.0 technologies. Web search engines and their functionality.

Description
2 compulsory projects (one theoretical or involving limited implementation and one involving extended implementation) weighting 40% (assuming the final examination mark is at least 4.5/10) , 1 optional project for grade improvement by 10%, written exams weighting 60% (potential mid-term weighting 15%, final exams weighting 45%) . Evaluation criteria are mentioned in the course webpages.
