Course Content (Syllabus)
Α) Principles of Environmental Engineering: application of basic transport processes in environmental technologies for separation of contaminants from liquid-solid-gas waste. OECD software tool for the study of chemicals on the persistence and transport capabilities over long distances. Analysis Monte Carlo Pollution of groundwater-contamination plume-Hydraulic conductivity - Hydraulic gradient – Darcy’ Law-Location of plume of pollution. Restoration of plumes (permeable active barriers, in-situ redox management, pump and treat, use and maintenance costs). Visual and interactive environmental software for deterministic and stochastic modeling of transport of pollutants into groundwater. B) Water Treatment (Drinking and Industry): basic processes (description, equations), separation-removal-destruction of the contents of micro-pollutants by advanced oxidation methods, basic plant design principles. C) Treatment of Wastewaters (municipal and industrial). Biological treatment: description of the main stages, basic design equations of the main (sub) units, reuse of treated waste. Visit to water and wastewater treatment plants.
