Βasic knowledge on digital design, computer architecture, electronics and computer programming.
Learning Outcomes
After the course completion, the students should be able to: 1. Understand the structure and functioning of the basic digital circuits and systems. 2. Know how to design and test such circuits and systems, using VLSI CMOS technology and test their perfromance. 3. Use design techniques for specific purposes (custom) such as low power design. 4. Understand the basic functioning of a computer microprocessor and memory.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Design abstraction levels. Transistor level, behavioural and transfer level. CMOS technology and devices. Simulation environments, the PSPICE. Basic design at transistor level and circuit layout. EDA tools and VLSI design process. Hardware description Languages, the VHDL language. Study of basic circuits (decoders, adders etc). Semiconductor memories. RAM & ROM memories. New VLSI technology advances: 3D integration, nano-scale circuits.
