General Prerequisites
Apart from the crimes penalized in the Penal Code, several other pieces of criminal legislation have been passed, penalizing acts such as illegal possession and trafficking of dangerous drugs,crimes against intellectual property (2121/1993 Act), crimes against smuggling (2960/2001 Act), drug distribution or trafficking laws (4139/2013 Act), laws against illegal immigration (3386/2005 and 4251/2014 Act, laws on personal data protection and illegal possession of firearms. This course is a generic study of selected of special criminal statutes in Greece. Students should be familiar with basic concepts of greek criminal law.
Learning Outcomes
COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1. To understand the criminal elements and to analyze both early and contemporary judicial thinking and legal reasoning of crimes against privacy (personal data), crimes against intellectual property, crimes against smuggling, drug distribution or trafficking laws, laws against illegal immigration and weapon possession crimes. 2. To articulate informed opinion over important, controversial issues in criminal law 3. To recognize important considerations dealing with the rights of criminal defendants

Course Content (Syllabus)
Topics include principles of criminal law, principles of criminal liability, complicity, inchoate crimes, defenses, justifications, excuses, crimes against privacy ( 2472/1997 Act) personal data), crimes against intellectual property (2121/1993 Act), crimes against smuggling (2960/2001 Act), drug distribution or trafficking laws (4139/2013 Act), laws against illegal immigration (3386/2005 and 4251/2014 Act) and weapon possession crimes (2168/1993 Act).

Student Assessment
Student evalution will take place through: - written/oral exams - voluntary elaboration of written thesis Students will be required to take a two-hour in-class exam that will count about almost 100 percent of the final grade. This exam will be closed book and no notes. Class attendance and class participation and effective seminar participation are very important to the comprehension of the course material, as well as to the final grade
