Course Content (Syllabus)
Authentic reading texts followed by comprehension and vocabulary activities, language exercises, and discussion questions. The texts touch upon various fields of music and are taken from a wide variety of sources. Indicative titles of units: The rise of instrumental music, Audiences in the Baroque era, General characteristics of Baroque music, Sonata and concerto, Antonio Vivaldi, Bach’s music, Handel’s London opera and oratorio, The new German Symphony, Mozart’s music, Beethoven: The heroic phase, Beethoven’s music, Expansion of the symphony 1800-1880, The string quartet.
