Learning Outcomes
After the successful completion of this course, students should be able to translate a small general public text. To do so, they should be able to identify the parameters of the original (author, context, public, etc), and master the basic techniques of research in bilingual and monolingual contexts, and to familiar with the different translation techniques.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is intended to give a general overview of the field of translation, its techniques and practices. Thus, students are practicing translation in a variety of general texts such as leaflets, guidebooks, newspaper articles, or advertising material. The aim of this course is to help students develop strategies for managing the translation process and define its steps.

Description
All courses take place in a computer-equipped classroom; all class material is available via e-class and can also be consulted during class time through an overhead projector. Students get trained in texts treatment and translation, having access to electronic resources Students can communicate with the instructor either by e-mail or via the platform of e-class.

Student Assessment
Description
The assessment is based on: a) two translation projects (40% of the total grade), b) written exams at the end of the semester (40%) and c) students' in-class participation (20%). All criteria are explicitly defined at the first session and they can also be found at the Students' Guide and in the e-class presentation of the course.
