Learning Outcomes
On the completion of this module students will : 1. have understood the main features, principles and rules of the domestic law of the Orthodox Church. 2. have understood the framework of national and international protection of Religious Freedom. 3. be able to understand the historical development of State and Church relations. 4. have understood the structure and synthesis of the Orthodox Church. 5. be able to write an essay about a topic discussed in class, with the approval of the course director.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Advanced courses on the domestic law of Orthodox Church. The historical development of Church and State relations. Advanced courses on the study of the right of Religious Freedom. The structure of the Orthodox Church. Members of the Orthodox Church (clergymen, laity, monks). 1RST WEEK : ECCLESIASTICAL LAW AND ITS SOURCES. 2ND WEEK : STATE AND CHURCH RELATIONS DURING ROMAN AND BYZANTINE ERA. 3RD WEEK: STATE AND CHURCH RELATIONS DURING THE PERIOD OF INDEPENDENCE. 4TH WEEK: STATE AND CHURCH RELATIONS IN THE WEST 5TH WEEK : FREEDOM OF RELIGIOUS CONSCIENCE 6TH WEEK: FREEDOM OF WORSHIP 7TH WEEK: LIMITATIONS TO RELIGIOUS FREEDOM 8TH WEEK : MEASURES OF THE STATE FOR THE PROTECTION OF RELIGIONS 9TH WEEK : THE LEGAL POSITION OF THE ORTHODOX CHURCH IN GREECE 10TH WEEK : THE STRUCTURE OF THE ORTHODOX CHURCH. 11TH WEEK: THE CONDITIONS AND THE PROCEDURE FOR GRANTING AUTOCEPHALY OR AUTONOMY TO LOCAL CHURCHES 12TH WEEK: THE AUTOCEPHALOUS AND THE AUTONOMOUS CHURCHES 13TH WEEK : THE MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH (CLERGYMEN, LAITY, MONKS)
