Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course students will 1. be familiar with the contemporary issues of the restoration theory 2. be familiar with the contemporary methods for the analysis and documentation of the architectural heritage 3. be familiar with the issues of interpretation and evaluation of the architectural legacy 4. will get a first contact with programming issues of intervention in historic buildings and 5. will gain insight into the complex field of intervention in historic buildings and ensembles, its synthetic requirements and complexity.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course deals with the theoretical and methodological issues of analysis, documentation and assessment for interventions of revaluation and reuse of historic structures. As known, such issues require a systematic and interdisciplinary analysis of the specific historical and aesthetic values, which monuments represent. The complexity that characterizes this field of architecture makes it necessary to adopt methods that combine different levels of analysis and express the contemporary theory of restorations. For a deeper understanding of the methods, are presented examples of completed studies and research programs, in greek and international level, which approximate not only the contemporary methodology but also its relationship with practices and applications required. Are also presented examples of international applications, which characterize the evolution of the restoration theory and illustrate the different approaches to the architectural heritage and the contemporary aspects in dealing with it. Students are invited to work in groups, to analyze and evaluate a selected historic building or ensemble in order to express the assessment of its current situation and the frame for the proposal of its re-evaluation and reuse, in accordance with the contemporary theory and practice.

Description
The students must analyse, document and interpret historical buildings by gathering information from various sources and by communicating with various groups of people and services. The collected data will be evaluated according to the validity of the sources and will be organized in electronic and design archives according to the methodology proposed at the course.

Description
Students are assessed according to their participation in the course and the quality of their project. This project is a team work and includes the full range of identification, analysis , documentation and evaluation of a selected historic building or set by applying the methods taught . The presentation of the project is made public and is supported by a detailed dossier . The assessment is completed with a written examination on issues relating to methodology and theory of intervention in historic buildings and ensembles.
