Learning Outcomes
The course aims to enable students to do the following:
Αnalysis of one variable; descriptive statistics (frequency tables, measures of mean and variance, descriptive diagrams)
Statistical tests for means
Analysis of relations between two variables
Course Content (Syllabus)
In its first part, this introductory course on statistics describes fundamental statistical concepts like variables and measuring scales, sample and population, random sampling and census.
In its second part, it deals with the analysis of one variable (univariate analysis), and explores techniques and concepts of descriptive statistics. More specifically, the course goes through distribution and frequency tables, measures of mean and variance, percentiles, descriptive diagrams (histograms, bar charts, Box-PLOT) and confidence intervals.
In its third part the course focuses on statistical tests of mean and standard deviation for repeated measurements and independent samples. In the fourth part, relations between two variables in a sample are examined, together with correlation coefficients, and techniques for analysis and description.
