Learning Outcomes
The course discusses the major comedies of Moliere, from the perspective of dramaturgy. At the same time, we deal with contemporary stagings of the plays, as well as with translation issues, related to the rendering of Moliere in modern Greek. The plays are studied in chronological order, according the time of composition and presentation on the French stage of the 17t century. The bibliography used is mostly English and French (with a few articles and/or books in Greek.

Don Juan (1665). 7. George Dandin (1668). 8. L'avare (1668). 9. Le bourgeois gentilhomme (1670). 10.Les fourberies de Scapin (1671). 11. Les femmes savantes (1672). 12. Le malade imaginaire (1673). 13. The contribution of Moliere in the development of European comedy.

Description
ASSESSMENT PRESENTATIONS: Students (individually or as a group) can do a presentation of specific stagings of the plays studied in the course. WRITTEN EXAMINATION The students will be asked to respond to three categories of questions: 1. Identification of excerpt from the plays discussed in class (30%). 2. Analysis of a specific plays, as far as its form and content (40%). 3. Commentary on a play of your choice (500 words). This is a take-home assignment and will be submitted on the day of the written examination (30%). You can choose on of two questions in 1 and 2. The assessment method is mentioned on the Syllabus, which is uploaded on the Blackboard site of the course, as well as on the departmental site.
