The main aim of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of how tourism interacts with economic development and natural environment. Upon successful completion of this course, students should have a fair knowledge of the basic methods and tools for sustainable tourism planning.

- Tourism quality and standards.
- Alternative tourism in rural areas.
- Agro-tourism, eco-tourism, spa and wellness tourism, wine tourism.
- Relationship between the tourism industry and the local economy, environment and society.
- The effect (impact) of tourism on natural and built environment.
- Environmental and tourism policies (principles and policies for sustainable tourism development, applications in typical tourist areas).
- Institutions, policy-makers and policy instruments related to the tourist sector.
- Tourism planning theory and practice.
