Course Content (Syllabus)
Heterogeneity of Cinema II: Time, Timing, Editing and Sound-Design
Theory and practice in film-direction. Film-direction as a synthesis of the heterogeneous elements of the cinematic medium, with a stress on the parameters of sound, such as voices, noises and music. We study the sound parameters in cinema, both autonomously and in their continuous dialogue with the elements of image. We investigate time in cinema both as a construction – through timing and editing – and as a perceptive experience. We analyse diachronically and synchronically film fragments, according to different theoretical approaches. Synthetic exercises aiming at the comprehension of the potentialities of the tripartite structure of sound in cinema. Collaboration between the film-director, the editor and the sound-designer.
Keywords
