Course Content (Syllabus)
Design seismic action; seismic hazard and seismic risk; software applications for response spectrum generation; behavior factors-force reduction factors; inelastic spectra for constant strength and ductility; design spectra; design action effects. Computer aided elastic and inelastic analysis of RC buildings; passive control-seismic isolation systems; performance-based and displacement-based design. Seismic response of RC materials and members; concrete (confined; unconfined) and steel under monotonic earthquake loading; steel-concrete bond under seismic action; seismic design principles for RC beams; columns; joints and shear walls. Assessment of seismic response of buildings; classification methods (damage matrices); risk scenarios; empirical methods for assessing the seismic fragility of buildings; Eurocode 8-3; Greek Code for Seismic intervention; ASCE41-07; examples of seismic design of important RC structures.
