Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to understand the concept of plant community as well as the plant species interactions and their relationships with abiotic factors. Furthermore, they will be able to understand and apply vegetation sampling and data analysis methods and to investigate vegetation differentiation in Greece and the corresponding ecological gradients.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The plant community concept. Plant species interactions. Vegetation sampling and description. Nature and properties of vegetation data. Classification and ordination methods. Systematic and nomenclature of vegetation units. Synecology and syndynamics. Applied vegetation study. Vegetation diversity in Greece and the Habitats’ Directive of European Union.
