Familiarization of the students with the techniques of the choice-of-law rules. Knowledge of the basic rules of four EU Regulations ("Brussels Ibis", "Brussels IIbis", "Rome I", "Rome II").

A. General Part: 1. Definition and nature of Private International Law. 2. Brief historical survey. 3. Sources of Private International Law. 4. Conflict-of-Laws methodology. 5. Characterization. 6. Renvoi. 7. Public Policy. 8. Application of foreign Law. 9. Incidental question. 10. Europeanization of Private International Law. B. Special Part: 1. Regulation (EU) 1215/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 12 December 2012, on jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters (recast) ("Brussels Ibis"), OJ L 351/20.12.2012. 2. Council Regulation (EC) 2201/2003, of 27 November 2003, concerning jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in matrimonial matters and the matters of parental responsibility, repealing Regulation (EC) 1347/2000 ("Brussels IIbis"), OJ L 338/23.12.2003. 3.
