Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will have acquired full knowledge of all those technical issues related to the painting of an icon. They will have obtained the ability to choose appropriate materials for each case and to apply them in practice. Having gained comprehensive knowledge in both theoretical and practical level they can create original compositions by morphological and stylistical means always aiming at the communication of the theological and religious character of the depicted subjects to the faithfull.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Acquaintance of students with the main principles of byzantine painting, the various techniques (encaustic, egg tempera, mosaic, fresco), the traditional and modern materials and methods. The nature of the course is primarily practical, organized so as to provide students with the ability to create their own portable icon or fresco.
