Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will: 1. can identify the protozoan parasites of ruminants, birds and lagomorphs 2. can identify the metazoan parasites of ruminants, birds and lagomorphs 3. are aware of the biological material and the sampling methods for the diagnosis of parasitic diseases of ruminants, birds and lagomorphs 4. are able to perform parasitological diagnostic procedures in order to diagnose the parasitic diseases of ruminants, birds and lagomorphs

Course Content (Syllabus)
3 hours. Parasites and parasitic diseases of birds. Macroscopic and microscopic demonstration of the parasites of birds (General morphology) Diagnosis of parasitic diseases of birds: Fecal examination methods (simple, sedimentation and flotation) to search and identify the reproductive elements of parasites. 3 hours. Trematodes and Cestodes of ruminants. Macroscopic demonstration of trematodes and cestodes parasites of ruminants (General morphology)Trimatodoses and cestodoses of ruminants: Fecal examination methods (sedimentation) to search and identify the reproductive elements of parasites. 3 hours. Protozoa and nematodes of ruminants. Macroscopic and microscopic demonstration of protozoa and nematodes of ruminants (General morphology)Protozooses and Nimatodoses of ruminants: Fecal examination methods (flotation) to search and identify the reproductive elements of parasites 3 hours. Diagnosis of nematodoses of ruminants: simple methods for larvae, Baermann, fecal culture, sampling and examination of pasture grass , identification of larvae of lung parasites. 2 hours. Diagnosis of parasitic diseases of ruminants (quantitative parasitological stool examination by the modified McMaster method and mini-Flotac. 2 hours. Parasitological examination of stool for Cryptosporidium spp. Parasitological blood smear examination for protozoa.
