Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will improve their singing ability, sharpen their analytical targeted listening, organize combined reading and vocal performance activities and practice the above.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Vocal and Aural Skills I
Choral Conducting in historical perspective from ancient times until present. Gesture – exercises to develop choral conducting skills. Vocal technique (anatomy, breathing process, choral sound, supported singing voice and resonance balance, “placement” of the voice). Choral singing (developing choral sound, articulation, vocal exercises for choir rehearsal). Score study and preparation. Rehearsal techniques. Sight-reading and piano playing in treble, bass and C clefs (two voice pieces). Practice with conducting two and three voice pieces from different eras.
