To enable the student to understand the evolution, progress and development of the Church and learn the major phases of its history. Το βe able to reproduce his knowledges and scientific work on them.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The historical development and the most important facts that concern in the historical life of the Church and are connected with the nature and her mission in the World. The predominance of Christianity inside the Greco-Roman Oikumene and the configuration of relations with the State. The appearance of heresies and their confrontation. The development of ecclesiastical organism. The christianization of Europe. The split of the Christian World and the attempts of reunification.
1.The legalization of Christianity and the relations between Church and State.
2.Arianism and the first two Ecumenical Councils.
3.The Christological controversies. The 5th Ecumenical Council.
4.Antichalkidonismus and neochalkidonismus. 4th Ecumenical Council.
5.Monoenergitismus and Monotheletismus.
6.Iconoclasm
7.The evolution of the administrativ system of the Church
8.Mission.
9.Rom and Constantinopel.
10.The Schism of 1054.
11.The Church and the East.
12.The Church and the West.
