Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to Archaeometry. Archaeological Materials and technology: stones (obsidian, quartz, precious and semiprecious stones, marbles, etc.), wood, leather, building materials, ceramics, glasses, glazes, enamels, paints, metals, and other materials and objects. Investigation of origin of archaeological findings and of the manufacturing technology. Dating methods: chemical methods (dating bones and fossils), nuclear and radiochemical methods. Influence of the environment on the archaeological findings, corrosion, deterioration and damage. Conservation and restoration. Authenticity tests. Laboratory exercises and applications in stone, ceramics, glass, metals, paints, building materials analyses. Evaluation of results.
