STRUCTURAL BIOCHEMISTRY
Basic structural principles, the building blocks, motifs of protein structures, a-domain structures, alpha/beta structures, beta structures, protein folding, DNA structures, helix-turn-helix, DNA recognition by proteins with the helix-turn-helix motif. Structural motifs of eukaryotic transcription factors , structures of serine proteases, structures of membrane proteins, structures of fibrous proteins, recognition of foreign molecules by the immune system, prediction engineering and design of protein structures, determination of protein structures.
INTRODUCTION TO BIOINFORMATICS
Data base indexing and specification of search terms. Structural bioinformatics. Introduction to sequence alignments, sequence similarity, FASTA, BLAST,multiple alignment, CLUSTALW, MOTIFS, Phylogenetic trees, prediction of secondary structure of proteins and nucleic acids,. Navigation to proteomic and protein engineering tools. Design of primers for PCR. Structural alignment of protein structure.
