Learning Outcomes
Learning of the following:
• basic application techniques and wood adhesion mechanisms,
• the factors that affect the success of the adhesion process,
• the main categories and types of wood adhesives and their evolution from the past to the present (future trends - ecological adhesives),
• the characteristics, properties, uses and combinations of natural and synthetic adhesives,
• the quality control methods of adhesives substances and strength of the bonds formed with the wood substrate,
• the phenomenon of formaldehyde emission from adhesives and laminated wood products
Course Content (Syllabus)
Theories, Application Techniques and Adhesion Mechanisms. Adhesion factors. Characteristics, properties, uses and combinations of natural and synthetic wood adhesives. Quality control of adhesives and strength of adhesion bonds with the substrate of wood. Reaction of wood components with adhesives. Release of formaldehyde from adhesives and laminated products. Safety rules, storage, rational use of adhesives. Trend of adhesives evolution - Ecological adhesives.
