Students should be familiar with the reasrch in bibliography of scientific publications and sources about fruit science.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. recognize the various fruit trees 2. understand principles and mechanisms underlying fruit tree physiology 3. learn key techniques and methods used for fruit tree cultivation.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Fruit's importance in global and Greek level.Fruit trees and their parts. Τhe origin and distributoin of fruit trees. The taxonomy and the ecology of fruit trees. Frosts, acclimatization and frost protection of fruit trees. Propagation of fruit trees. Fruit tree rootstocks. Orchard design and planting establishment. Cultivation techniques and orchard management (irrigation, fertilization, pruning, training systems, fruit thinning). Fruiting organs and fruiting habit of major fruit. Pollination, fertilization, fruit set, fruit growth and development. Fruit ripening, maturity criteria and fruit harvest. Fruit storage.
