After the successful completion of the course the students will be able to:
- describe the world of the early Christian communities and of the NT
- use this data n order to understand and interpret the NT
- compare these facts from the NT period to contemporaries situations and draw conclusions

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course will focus on the political, cultural, and social background of the early Christian communities and well as of the NT books.
1) Introduction: the research field of the NT History and its significance, 2) Basic historical information of the period 2nd c. BC - beg. 2nd c. AD, 3) Economy of Palestine, 4) Social stratification and family, 5) Temple and priesthood, 6) Synagogue, 7) Jews of Diaspora, 8) Political organization of the Roman world, 9) The emperor and imperial cult, 10) Economy, 11) Social stratification, 12) Family and city, 13) cults and thiasoi
