Course Content (Syllabus)
Theory: Introduction- from the optical fiber in the integrated photonic waveguides, refractive index and waves. Optical link characterization parameters - optical signal (PULSE TRACE, EYE DIAGRAM, BER, Q-FACTOR, EXTINCTION RATIO). Theory of optical transmitters, optical filters and semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) and erbium doped fiber amplifiers. LAB: Introduction to VPI simulation tool for photonic circuits. Signal quality characterization (with pulse generator and oscilloscope). Laboratory tests with optical active and passive optical components (transmitters, filters and amplifiers).
