Course Content (Syllabus)
Following a critical review of literature on the use of digital media in language education, the focus of the course is shifting to incorporate the fact that such modern media of communication are now part and parcel of children’s daily, out-of-school/extra-curricular literacy practices. The course mainly focuses on exploring two questions: the way of scientifically reading these practices and how they inte-connected with children’s literate identities. Using a theoretical framework and tools from Social Semiotics and New Literacy Studies the course is oriented towards training students in the process of collecting and analyzing field data on children’s digital literacy practices. Research findings are discussed in relation to theoretical and research priorities of educational linguistics.
