Course Content (Syllabus)
The studio explores the potentials of digital media in architectural design through a study of a hybrid building in the city centre of Thessaloniki. It is aiming in the exploration of the ‘creative’ use of computation in the design process. The studio is not focusing only at the final design outcome but in the design process perceived as continuous research and development through correlated design stages.
Students are invited to develop their personal design perspective and intention in design process through interrelated and serial exercises that will gradually generate their final architectural proposal. They have to develop diagrammatic techniques, to design "deep surfaces" & interactive surfaces, dynamic models and new structures with spatial characteristics and qualities capable of proposing hybrid spaces. To explore the relationship between material and digital dynamic models. To understand the processes and stages through which the "raw" data are mutated, perceive meaning and organized into a desired non-standard architectural proposal, through their personal pursuits.
The studio includes presentations, brief lectures by invited speakers, discussion and analysis of related essays and texts.
