Learning Outcomes
To learn the basics of the structure and operation of the electric power system and the tools for their analysis. To understand electric power transmission and distribution as well as the problems related to them and how they can be handled. To understand basic economic concepts and techniques and how they can be applied in electric energy. To learn the basics of the deregulated electric power markets and of electric pricing. To learn the basic concepts of renewable energy sources, regarding operation and dimensioning with special emphasis on wind and solar power. To learn the basics of the electrical installations and the protection methods against electric shock

Course Content (Syllabus)
Electric power transmission system, overhead power lines, underground power cables, technical properties. Short overhead transmission lines, equivalent circuits, power voltage relations, voltage regulation, reactive power compensation. Electric power system economics, load and load duration curves, power generation costs, biding policies, market de-regulation. Introduction to power electronics, ac/dc converters, inverters, applications. Electric power installations in buildings, European standards, protection and safety standards, medium and low voltage switchgear, cables, design principles.
