To understand simulation modeling techniques and their application in power systems, as well as large scale power system calculations To learn about the performance of transient models in power systems To use the most common simulation tools for dynamic analysis of power systems, fault analysis and protection coordination

Course Content (Syllabus)
Electric power system transients, historical background, computational methods, available software, EMTP-ATP software, modeling of electrical networks with lumped parameters, transmission lines with distributed parameters in the time-domain, frequency-dependent parameter models. Underground power cable models. Modeling of sources and switches. Models of rotating machines, synchronous, asynchronous generators. Switching transients, atmospheric disturbances and fast front transients. Overvoltage surge arresters and insulation coordination. Analysis of power system faults, short circuit current calculations, historical background, Computational methods, available software. Calculation of short circuit currents in three phase ac systems according to IEC 60909. Modeling of systems and devices. Short circuit current calculations, protection coordination
