Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to teach data organisation and processing principles and techniques, with special emphasis on the operation and management of databases that present journalistic interest. In particular, the course contains the following educational units: Introduction to databases (basic definitions and historical development), Data organisation and processing with Microsoft Excel, Database management with Microsoft Access, Database creation (database design, tables, relations between tables), Working with data (inserting, updating, and searching), Query design and execution (select queries, cross-tab queries, update queries), Form design and usage, Report design and printing, Co-operation between database management software and other office automation software (mail-merge), On-line databases and databases on the Internet, Digital libraries.
