Course Content (Syllabus)
The course surveys the various approaches to the Greek state in a set of studies written by historians, political scientists and sociologists since the era of “Metapolitefsi”. The investigation of the development of the Greek state in terms of a broad trajectory of modernization unfolds along two major thematic axes: a] administrative bureaucracy, public sphere and civil society b] the role of international powers in Greek politics. The purpose of the course is to reflect on the heuristic utility of the various approaches to political modernization and reconsider their contribution in the field of Greek modern studies as well as their limitations.
