Learning Outcomes
At this seminar we will present and discuss issues relating to the development of pedagogical theory and educational practice during the 20th century. This seminar analyzes the theories which are associated with educational policy-making issues. We will also present the basic social analyzes, economic, ideological and political factors that contribute to the capture, processing and implementation of educational reforms. We will analyze the key players who develop the education policy in Greece as well as the dynamics of change and maintenance, which developed around new educational approaches (innovations). We will examine, finally, the work of important personalities from the fields of education, pedagogy and politics, and institutions or other collectives played an important role in the establishment and development of Greek education system during the 20th century. Knowledge -To understand the basic characteristics of the Greek educational system as evolved in the 20th century. -To understand and evaluate the ideological movements influenced educational developments during the 20th century. -To understand and evaluate the work and actions of important personalities, actors and other collectives in the evolution of the educational institution in the 20th century. General Skills -To raise awareness in recording, classification, understanding and interpretation of the primary sources of the 20th century. -To evaluate critically reform efforts and the educational reforms of the 20th century. -To utilize historical sources in scientific writing, based on specific terminology, logical arguments and references. -To contact with multiple categories and types of sources. -To compare events, characters and situations of the 19th century with 20th century respectively. -To acquire the ability to approach critically, analyze and interpret raw sources. -To demonstrate and to support a historical research.

The disintegration and dissolution of the "Educational Club" (1927-1929) 8. Venizelos' reform (1929-1932) 9. The educational policy of the Metaxas' dictatorship (1936-1941) 10. Education during the Occupation and the Civil War • The "recovery" period (1949-1955) • The Karamanlis' period (1955-1963) • The educational reform of 1964-1965 11.
