Learning Outcomes
Students to be able to understand how learning and teaching takes place based on the cognitive and social-cognitive learning and teaching theories with emphasis placed on preschool education. More specifically, to be able to: 1. compare and combine personalistic, cognitive and socio-cognitive theories of learning and teaching, 2. analyse children's socio-cognitive conflicts and 3. consider the effect of culture, context and teachers' expectations on children's learning.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Piaget’s influence. Cognitive constructivism, cognitive conflicts and learning, Bruner’s discovery learning, Ausubel’s meaningful learning.
Socio-cognitive theories of learning and teaching. Vygotsky’s and Bandura’s influence. Social interactions and learning. Socio cognitive conflicts.
Culture and learning. Situated learning. Tacit knowledge
Children’s learning and teachers’ expectations. Prejudices, stereotypes and education. Self-fulfilling prophecy
