Learning Outcomes
With the successful attendance of this course, the students will be able to perform the following things: 1. to conduct field work, 2. to write the text and to transcribe the melody of Greek folk songs both in Western and Byzantine notation, 3. to edit a CD, 4. to make the edition of Greek folk music, with educational and/or musicological-scientific profile, 5. to teach Greek folk music in the primary and secondary school.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course comprises the following units: 1. strategies of conducting field work, 2. presentation of the main bibliography of the field (in Greek and in other languages), as well as of the most important archives and collections of Greek folk music in Greece, 3. techniques of transcribing Greek folk songs into Western and Byzantine notations, 4. issues concerning the theory, history and geography of the Greek folk music. Archiving and classification of Greek folk songs, 5. organology and playing techniques of Greek traditional instruments, as well as acquaintance with important collections of traditional musical instruments, 6. elements of analysis (metrical, musical-poetical and modal) of Greek folk music,
