Learning Outcomes
The aim of this course is to analyze the fundamental concepts and discuss the definitions of sustainable integrated rural development as well as the recent trends of policy, programs and initiatives for rural development. Economic development, societal needs and environmental dimensions and concerns are discussed under the strategical planning and governance systems of the european and national countryside.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Theory and implementation of countryside development in the western countries with an emphasis of european union and Greece in particular. Means and tools of sustainable rural development. Institutional framework of rural development of national, european and international framework for sustainable integrated rural development. Common Agricultural Policy. II Pilar of CAP. Environmental and territorial dimension of rural development policy. EU rural development programs and initiatives and 2007-13 strategy. Rural Development Program 2014-20 Planning, development, monitoring and evaluation of strategies, policies, programs and initiatives foe rural development. New governance structures for the countryside sustainability. Regional and local dimension of the countryside development policy.
