Course Content (Syllabus)
Biophysics: Differential Calorimetry - Unfolding of proteins - Lipid Phases. Membrane Dynamics, Ion Channels - Ion Pumps - Patch Clamp. Spectroscopy Visible/Ultraviolet (UV/Vis), Optical activation, Fluorescence. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). Neutron Diffraction. Small angle X-ray and Neutron Scattering - protein structure in solution. Modelling methods (Molecular dynamics of proteins and nucleic acids-local and total structural changes - ligand binding - enzyme activity). Biochemistry: Structures of proteins, nucleic acids - Interaction of nucleic acids with other molecules. Biosynthesis and biodeconstruction of proteins and nucleic acids. The information in the structure of DNA - Transmittance of information. Methods of determination of structure of biological molecules. Laboratorial familiarization with techniques of isolation and determination of proteins. Control of enzyme action. Interaction of proteins with nucleic acids. Laboratorial familiarization and experiments.
