Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, students will: - know the fundamentals of design theory and practice - be aware of contemporary issues in industrial design - be able to clarify the similarities and differences between art and design (visual and utilitarian object) - be able to cope with simple design and construction applications

Course Content (Syllabus)
The module aims to introduce the student to the basics of design theory and practice, addressing upon wider issues of contemporary design and clarifying the similarities and differences between art and design (visual and utilitarian object). ■ the Language of Things: everyday objects as conveyors of functional information and symbolic meaning ■ Contemporary views on Design and Styling ■ Factors / Restrictions in the Design og Industrial Objects ■ Functionality, Ergonomics, interface, standarization, personalization ■ Social and Cultural Aspects in Indusrtial Design ■ Objects in the borderline of Art and Design Instructional Resources: The conduct of the course is assisted by rich visual material in multimedia format (PowerPoint, video, documentaries). Short design exercises to introduce students to the fundamentals of design factors, methodology and proccess (ergonomics, interface, etc.)
