Learning Outcomes
The unit will cover the main principles of children’s development and the effects of fine and gross motor development on cognitive, social and emotional development as well as on academic achievement. Additionally, it will analyze the scientific methods and measurements of the assessment of psychomotor development of children with learning difficulties and developmental coordination disorder.
Finishing this unit the children should be able to:
• To understand the basic stages of psychomotor development.
• To understand the relation between motor skills and cognitive ability.
• To understand the motor disturbances and their effectiveness in social and emotional development of children.
• To design and apply exercise programs adapted to the special needs of every child with learning difficulties and motor disturbances.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Design of educational programs adapted in the special needs of children with learning difficulties and/or developmental coordination disorder
- Neurodevelopmental disorders of school age children. Learning difficulties, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
- Motor disturbances of children with learning difficulties. Appropriate intervention programs.
- Motor and functional ability of children with ADHD
- Assessment of fine motor skills of children with motor difficulties
- Assessment of developmental coordination disorder. Intervention programs, practical applications
- Motor skills and their relation with peer interaction difficulties and bullying. Play psychomotor activities as a mean of management and intervention.
