Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of the course students will have obtained a deeper understanding of the history of Europe, the flux of ideas and the interaction between socioeconomic factors, philosophy, aesthetics and social mores. They will also be able to compare and to contrast with a full awareness of multiculturalism and use an interdisciplinary approach.

Course Content (Syllabus)
An introduction to Comparative Literature and to the interrelation of literary studies to the history of ideas. The course discusses the formation of Modern Europe during the 18th and 19th century through socioeconomic and political changes, philosophical ideas and aesthetic movements (Enlightenment, Romanticism, Realism).
