Course Content (Syllabus)
In this seminar, an analysis of the theories related to issues of educational policy formulation is made. The main social, economic, ideological and political factors contributing to the conception, elaboration, and implementation of education reforms are identified. We analyze the most important actors involved in educational policy and the dynamics of change and maintenance that are being developed against new educational efforts. In particular, we investigate the implementation of education reforms in Greece, from the establishment of the Modern Greek state (1830) until the principles of the regime change (1974), their targeting, implementation, and impact both on the structure of the education system. Issues such as access to education, massive education, school choice, private sector involvement in public education, technical-vocational training as a second-parallel training network, etc. are addressed. In particular, at this seminar the students will research the linguistic-educational reform of the period 1917-1920 and will come into contact with multiple sources (legislative texts, newspapers, photographic material, etc.) for the representation of the historical phenomenon, which will be called upon to approach with two, mainly, methodological 'examples' of analysis and interpretation, the historical-interpretive method and the quality analysis of content, considering the form of the material to be examined.
