Course Content (Syllabus)
• Introduction to Numerical methods in Geotechnical Engineering • Introduction in the Finite Element Method • Plane strain finite elements • Bar, beam and interface elements • Isoparametric elements • Boundary conditions, solution, post-processing • Applications in Geotechnical Engineering, soil modelling, structures and loads • Discretization errors • Linear and nonlinear soil constitutive laws • Elasto-plastic constitutive soil models • Critical State Theory and modified Cam Clay model • Non-linear finite element analysis • Numerical analysis of geotechnical structures (shallow and deep foundations, excavations, embankments, retaining walls, underground structures).
