Course Content (Syllabus)
General principals of chromatography, photometry, detection and quantitative analytical chemistry. Applications of instrumental chromatographic techniques in the study of physicochemical and biological properties of pesticides and pesticide residue analysis. 1. Principals of chromatography, photometry and laboratory techniques of studying physicochemical and biological properties of pesticides and pesticide residue analysis. 2. Principals of Liquid Chromatography (instrumentation, chromatographic materials, mechanisms of retention and separation of organic compounds and calculation of basic chromatographic parameters (retention time, capacity factor, separation factor, resolution etc.). 3. Principals of Gas Chromatography (instrumentation, chromatographic materials, mechanisms of retention and separation of organic compounds and calculation of basic chromatographic parameters (retention time, capacity factor, separation factor, resolution etc.). 4. Principals of Thin Layer chromatography and instrumentation. 5. Techniques of sample preparation and extraction of pesticide residues from different substartes (soil, water, agricultural products). 6. Principals of developing methods for pesticide residue analysis. 7. Laboratory excersise to estimate the main chromatographic parameters when a pesticide mixture analysed by liquid chromatography. 8.Laboratory excersise for estimating the main chromatographic parameters when a pesticide mixture analysed by gas chromatography. 9. Laboratory excersise for studing physicochemical properties of pesticides, for instance reaction kinetic studies of ester hydrolysis. 10. Laboratory excersise for analysing pesticide residues in an agricultural product. 11.Laboratory excersise for studing the behaviour (leaching and absorption) of pesticides in soil using thin layer chromatography. 12.Laboratory excersise for analysing pesticide residues in honey. 13. Laboratory excersise using a multiresidue method for the analysis of pesticide residues in an agricultural commodity.
