Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Βe familiar with the scientific environmental terms related to pollution and protection of aquatic ecosystems and the atmosphere 2. Understand the environmental pollutants, their sources and their impacts on the biotic and abiotic environment. 3. Know the measures, which must be taken by the environmental bodies and to know the every day citizens apropriate behavior for a better environment.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Pollutant categories and relative polluters. Fresh water ecosystems. Eutrophication. Accidents that affect the environment (e.g. Sevezo, Bhopal, Chernobyl, Oil spills), Ecotoxicology. organisms and pollutants causing deseases to human. Atmospheric pollutants and their effects to biota and abiotic environment. Acid rain and acid snow. Acidification of the environment. Stratospheric ozon. Effects of climate change on the environment. Greenhouse effect. Phenomenon El Niño. Legislation on environmental protection. Codes of good agricultural practices. Protected areas and management plans. Environmental impact assessment. Environmental protection bodies. Environmental education.
