Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction and historical data. Methods of grapevine description and classification. Phenotype characters - Ampelographical codes of the international organization of vine and wine (OIV). Systemic classification of the vine-Vitaceae family. Vitis and Muscadinia genera. American, European and Asian vine species and their contribution in vine improvement, for phylloxera and disease control. Vine registration and regulations. Grapevine rootstocks, Vitis Riparia and Vitis Rupestris varieties. Vitis Riparia and Vitis Rupestris hybrids. Vitis Berlandieri and Vitis Rupestris hybrids. European-American and synthetic hybrids. Hybrid Direct Producers ( HDPs). Table grape varieties. Wine variety production zones and Protected Denomination of Origin products – Protected Geographical Indication products. Foreign grapevine varieties in Greece.
