Learning Outcomes
With the successful completion of the course, students are expected to acquire knowledge on: a) the development of the processes and the abilities that are involved in learning, b) the learning theories and the development of motivation, c) intrinsic and extrinsic factors that influence learning. Also, they are expected to become familiar with methods that the educator may apply in order to enhance learning in the cognitive domain and improvement of social behavior.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Definition and field of educational psychology. School psychology, developmental psychology. Maturing and learning. Readiness for learning. Cognitive development. The Piaget’s theory. Factors that affect intellectual ability and development. Intelligence and learning. Emotional intelligence: components and its development in the school context. Learning Theories. Classical conditioning. Learning by trial and error-operant conditioning, Insightful learning. Social learning. Applications of learning theories in educational practice, comparison and critique. Information processing approach. Memory, factors influencing it and information processing models. Motivation. Theoretical approaches. Motivation for learning. Success pursuit and avoidance. The role of family and school in the development of motivation. Seminars-Workshops: Interviews of teachers and students on the management of the classroom. Analysis of cases regarding the following topics: Problem management; Cognitive learning theories; Linguistic, social, cognitive and psychological development of students; Behavioral and social learning theories; Learning motivation; Family and learning; Effective teaching; Intelligence
