Learning Outcomes
Τheoretical classes: to study and understand the development of the embryo starting from gametogenesis up until the 10th month of gestation. The development of the embryo during the first 2 months is being emphasized, along with the formation and the role of the fetal membranes and placenta and the factors responsible for congenital anomalies. The development of the organs, according to system, as well as the congenital anomalies that may occur.
Laboratory classes: Fertilization, fetal membranes, placenta, development of organs.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Theoretical classes: gametogenesis, menstrual cycle, fertilization, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th week of gestation, the 3 germ cell layers- their differentiation and derivatives, the gross morphology of the embryo from the 2nd until the 10th month of gestation, fetal membranes, placenta, multiple gestation, factors responsible for congenital anomalies, Development and congenital anomalies of joints, spine, ribs, extremities, muscles, diaphragm, skull and facial bones, heart, vessels and of the digestive, urinary, respiratory, reproductive, nervous system and sensory organs.
Laboratory classes: Fertilization, fetal membranes, umbilical cord,placenta, development of organs.
