Course Content (Syllabus)
The course initiates with an introductory presentation of Andre Siegfried's methodology, the founder of a new scientific discipline, which he named - and insisted on naming – “electoral geography” (geo¬graphie electorale). We will also refer to another school: “political ecology”, whose main representative was R. Heberle. The course will analyze the transformations of the electoral impact of political factions in the 20th century, by the individual local electoral specific features till the electoral influence of parties is homogenized. We will analyze phenomena like the diversification of election results between “Old Greece” and the “New Lands” the appearance of regions that were called “Small Moscow” or “Democratic” or “Green” islands as well as the emergence of -at local level- electoral choices, whose interpretation must refer to events whose historical, political and social origins lie in events that took place 7 decades ago. Finally, attention will be given to the analysis and interpretation of the electoral behavior of ethnic, religious, etc. minorities from the completion of the country's territorial structure up to date.
